Landon Donovan's first professional experience was with Bayer Leverkusen in the German Bundesliga. In 2001 he joined the MLS San Jose Earthquakes and helped lead them to the MLS Cup. In 2002 he appeared in his first World Cup, scoring 2 goals in 5 games.
