Members of FIFA since 1938, El Salvador's national team has reached the World Cup finals twice, in 1970 and 1982. However it has yet to win a game in the final tournament. Its first division league consists of ten clubs and, like most Latin American countries, its season is divided into two halves, Apertura and Clausura.
