Lowell, James Russell

James Russell Lowell (1819-1891) was a poet, essayist, literary critic, diplomat, and the first editor of the Atlantic Monthly. A Harvard graduate, he returned there to teach. Lowell spent most of his life in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
